Nine timeless bucket bags

Jerome Dreyfuss - Alain bucket bag
The Jerome Dreyfus Alain bag is quite stunning. It comes in four different colours - black (one smooth calfskin, one laser-cut calfskin), stone (a grey velvet calfskin), verdigris (a greenish grey goatskin) and Nuts (brown calfskin). All of them beautiful but my passion for grey remains and choosing the Alain in stone wouldn't require any deliberation.

Mansur Gavriel - Bucket bag
Mansur Gavriel has been much talked about over the last year or so. Great for the brand but not so great as products become hard to get or sell out altogether (my first post about Mansur Gavriel is here). The bucket bag comes in three colours with a variety of resin coated interior colours.

Tila March - Romy leather bucket bag
Like much of the range from Tila March, the Romy is an elegant, classic bucket bag that you would use for many years.

Status Anxiety - Distant Lover bucket bag

Australian brand Status Anxiety has a great black leather bucket bag at a very reasonable price. They ship internationally and free shipping within Australia for orders over AUD$99.

TL-180 make a classic bucket bag in three different styles - a striped black and blue calf leather and a red or a black velvet for people who want a classic bag with a twist.

Florian London - Mahiki leather bucket bag
This bucket bag comes in black, tan and purple high quality lambskin with gold hardware. The black is a stand out for me.

Belen Echandia - Rio bucket bag
If you are looking for some colour in wardrobe, the Rio bucket bag comes in a vibrant red but remains classic in style.

Rebecca Minkoff, Dexter bucket bag
The exterior zip pockets and tassels make this bag feel a bit edgier than the other bucket bags on this list. It's very reasonably priced and would be an excellent every day bag.

Baggu drawstring purse
No wonder it's sold out at the moment - it's such good value while being a modern, minimalist style. Make sure you check their site to see when it's back in stock.
They also have collaborated with Brooklyn-based All Knitwear to make awesome knit hats and colour-block cotton canvas bags and backpacks.

Continuing to be inspired by Net-a-Porter's guide on colours to work into your wardrobe now, this week we are exploring grey and orange bags from independent handbag designers.

The Zurich from London-based Milli Millu ticks both boxes of being lady-like and orange.

Another London-based brand, Florian London's two toned Keona tote has a structured but clean-lines look. It's big enough to carry your daily essentials but has some key interior pockets to keep everything to hand.

From Kiwi brand Deadly Ponies comes Mr Chain Mail NZ$595 made from soft deer skin, it has an orange chain strap with padded shoulder. Check out their site... I'm really liking the Mr Chain Mail in the blue and it also comes in black.

Alternative to... Zara Braided Shopper

Posted on May 15, 2013 by Rachel Kwei | 0 comments

The Zara braided shopper is a bag that I've seen everywhere for the last couple of years. It simply must be one of their best sellers. When I first came across it, it stood out with its unique shape, warm rich brown shade and amazing size. It has the fantastic ability to carry everything you could want for a busy day and more. It is also very reasonably priced at £89.
In a funny turn of events, Zara the 'copycat brand' became copied with other brands producing leather and non-leather versions of the same bag and soon the braided shopper was everywhere.
There's no denying it, when a bag has this much utility it's hard to beat. However, in the interests of supporting independent designers here's an alternative shopper that offers similar features but in a less ubiquitous way if you have a little bit more money to spend than you would on the Zara shopper.

The 'City' Saffiano Shopper (£275) from Florian London has a more tailored look but an overall similar style to the braided shopper. It comes in three colours - orange, tan and grey - is fully lined and includes an internal pouch pocket and detachable wallet. It's made by Florian London and available on their website.

Spotlight on... Florian London - Middleton tote

Posted on May 01, 2013 by Rachel Kwei | 0 comments

Slightly cringe-worthy name aside, the Middleton tote from Florian London is a really good looking bag. It's got a large zipped, interior pocket with two other internal compartments. Size-wise, it's not too big - 36.5cm long (think just bigger than the average sized ruler), 23cm tall and a width of 13cm so you will easily fit your daily essentials in. Also available in tan and black, I'm a big fan of the teal. There isn't a longer shoulder strap available,  just the two handles, but that's the kind of lady-like bag it is after all.
