Spotlight on... two new-to-me brands

Posted on July 08, 2013 by Rachel Kwei | 0 comments

I'd love to say I discovered these two brands myself but I came across them both over on the fab Miss Moss blog.

The first brand is Scout & Catalogue who make this gorgeous Yelapa leather tote. Taking inspiration from the beach culture of Mexico but hand made in Vancouver, these totes are a great size and shape to be a versatile staple of your wardrobe.

The second discovery from Miss Moss was a bag designed by Agnes Baddoo to replace one that she'd inherited from her mother. At the moment, it's available in 2 sizes - as the replica of her mother's bag (sac 1) and a larger version (sac 2) with additional colours and a canvas/leather version on the horizon. They are available from the Agnes Baddoo site.

Spotlight on... IIlBeCa Hudson Street cross body

Posted on July 01, 2013 by Rachel Kwei | 0 comments

I spotted this IIlBeCa Hudson Street cross body recently and really liked the way the shoulder-bag style has been married with the utility of a cross body bag. It doesn't look slouchy or too casual but perfect for wallet, sunglasses, a mobile and you are good to go.

Available in turquoise (below), viola or white, they're reasonably priced so if you want to be a bit more daring and use it to add a splash of colour to your wardrobe you can do it without feeling like you need to make a long term 'investment' decision!

The Carmen Tote from Australian designer Benah is a lovely, structured tote that has top handles that can fit over your shoulder plus the option of a detachable cross body strap. As an added bonus it has two side pockets on the outside and an internal zip pocket for keeping things safe. It's fully lined, comes in four colours - red, white paisley, tan/camel and black/grey and available from Benah for between AUD$570-580 (approx. £390)

Heirloom carryall, Rib and Hull

How beautiful is this Heirloom Carryall in cognac from Rib and Hull? The gorgeous leather is hand finished in Tuscany and has an interior zip pocket but, unlike many other tote bags, it also has a top zip closure which is great if you just want everything to be a little more secure. It's available in two colours - cognac and oxblood - on the Rib and Hull website for US$400 (approx. £250)

Spotlight on... Hard Graft - Ocean hold all

Posted on May 08, 2013 by Rachel Kwei | 0 comments

I've become a bit of an enthusiast about this brand since discovering it over a year ago. The brand story has really resonated with me. Hard Graft products are about a juxtaposition of wool and leather materials of the highest quality. A laptop sleeve was the first product produces and the founders realised they were creating a new approach to technology accessories - creating a juxtaposition between the fast pace of technology and it's planned obsoletion alongside the enduring qualities of wool and leather, the Italian craftsmanship and the product design itself. I love the idea that they summarise as 'hold on to the good' - looking backwards for inspiration to create some old world charm and craft married with a design aesthetic that's new and fresh with small details that are different but functional.

Please visit their website the design of which, like their products, has a different twist to what everyone else does. On my recent visit to the Hard Graft website, I fell in love with this new travel bag which is made from leather and waxed cotton canvas. Just beautiful.

Spotlight on... Florian London - Middleton tote

Posted on May 01, 2013 by Rachel Kwei | 0 comments

Slightly cringe-worthy name aside, the Middleton tote from Florian London is a really good looking bag. It's got a large zipped, interior pocket with two other internal compartments. Size-wise, it's not too big - 36.5cm long (think just bigger than the average sized ruler), 23cm tall and a width of 13cm so you will easily fit your daily essentials in. Also available in tan and black, I'm a big fan of the teal. There isn't a longer shoulder strap available,  just the two handles, but that's the kind of lady-like bag it is after all.
